Days here are getting shorter and colder. My winter jacket is out keeping me warm. I already miss summer, sunny skies, +27 Celsius, and sketching outdoors. I have to admit I also miss traveling, France, and street walking in Paris. I look back in time, daydream a little, then I dive through my photos. Inspiration is always there: buildings, nature, flowers, streets… many subjects to choose from.
I’ve just fall in love with the perspective looking up toward a tall building. I tried to tackle the perspective, without having a lot of formal knowledge of it. I did notice that my main vanishing points were off the page. Vanishing point is a concept new to me. These are the points or spots at which groups of lines that are parallel in space will appear to converge in to the horizon line. I let this concept of them guide the true angles of the facade I was looking towards. Then I added the main volumes, and layered the rest of the details of the sketch. In total my pencil lines took about 20-25 min to complete, and after that I added the ink. Adding watercolors was fun, and took another half an hour.
Sketching, drawing and painting is relaxing, fun, and healing. Pick your pen and your brush, and drop all other worries of the day…you deserve an hour of your day, to come back to self, and find balance within. Don’t let fear and limiting beliefs stop you from exploring life, in whatever way you find amazing, and exciting. It will soon be a year since I have started this sketching journey, and one year ago, I did not have the belief that I could draw anything recognizable, and somewhat accurate. Today I notice my progress, and I fully understand that our beliefs shape our reality.
